Watch it live on Frank’s 2000″ TV

Weird Al Yankovic is pretty important to me. I’m old enough to remember listening to Weird Al on the radio, Sunday nights on theDr. Demento Show. Even before that, I would trade cassette tapes with kids at school trying to collect all of Al’s songs, and I wore out more than a few of those tapes before I had the money to buy legitimate copies of his music. He’s one of the few artists I’m willing to see live, which may say more about me than it does him. And that’s why I was excited to see that he’s agreed to be theclosing act at this year’s BlizzCon eventin Anaheim next week.

Al’s been making music for over four decades, and recently had his first number one album,Mandatory Fun, for which he won his fourth Grammy award. He’s best known for his parody songs like “Word Crimes” (“Blurred Lines”), “Fat” (“Bad”), and “White & Nerdy” (“Ridin’ Dirty”), but also performs original songs like “One More Minute” and “Lame Claim to Fame.” His live shows usually feature several costume changes and video clips from his long entertainment career. If you’re interested in reading an interview, here’s a great onewhere Al speaks with Jemaine Clement of Flight of the Concords.

“We’re super excited to close out our tenth BlizzCon with a performance from an epic showman—and fellow geek,” said Mike Morhaime, CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment. “Weird Al has entertained millions of people around the world with his hilarious music, and we’re thrilled that he’s bringing mandatory fun to the show and everyone following along with a Virtual Ticket.”

“I’m very excited to be playing at BlizzCon,” said Al, “because it’ll be one of the few times in my life where a significant percentage of the audience is even nerdier than I am!”
