I didn’t much care forTony Hawk: Ride. Other critics appear to agree, with the game’sMetacriticscore hovering just under 50 out of 100. Tony Hawk, who worked with Robomodo and Activision every step of the way to bring the game to life, isn’t please with the reaction.

“Most snarky critics had their minds set before ever seeing/playing the game,” he wrote on hisTwitter account.

“I’m proud of what we created,” he added. “It’s innovative, responsive & fun.”

When I first laid eyes on the peripheral earlier in the year, I was skeptical at first, but impressed and curious by the potential. My reviewscore, a “2” out of our 10-point-scale, is the lowest score I’ve ever given a game. It didn’t come lightly; I don’t enjoy dumping all over the hard work, money, and time put into any title.

But Hawk’s assessment that critics had made up their mind early, at least in my case, couldn’t be more off base. Many hours were spent on the board, playing alone and with my son who also decided early on he wasn’t having much fun.

In many cases, critical reception doesn’t match how the public feels about a title, and it’s usually obvious. Poor review scores will result in an outcry, comments pouring in to defend the title or question the reviewer. So I have to ask, have any of you guys purchased or playedTony Hawk: Rideand genuinely enjoyed the experience?
