As revealed inGame Informer, Bungie at least toyed with the idea of expandingHalo: Reach‘s space mission into a full-blown multiplayer mode. “We joked about it from time to time and even had a rough version of it working very early on in development,” says creative directorMarcus Lehto.

“But the mechanics of it were pretty silly and we very quickly realized that the resulting gameplay experience wouldn’t hit the bar we were aiming for, nor justify the amount of work required. With so many features and so much content already committed,Reachwas an incredibly ambitious project on an already aggressive schedule.”

That’s a fair point. Still, I’d be all about a Bungie-developed, digitally distributed space combat game should such a thing ever exist. Actually, they don’t even need to be the ones behind the project. I’d pretty much take whatever I could get at this point.
