Word of mouth is the most powerful marketing tool there is, unfortunately forMindsEye, the new action title from Build A Rocket Boy and former Rockstar Games producer Leslie Benzies.
The third-person game is riddled with bugs and crashing issues on both PC and console, for starters, but the game is just apparently not very good according to those who’ve somehow found a way to work through the technical issues to finish it.
“I just finishedMindsEye,” said YouTuber TGG onTwitter/X. “The final two hours are some of the worst hours I have ever witnessed in a video game. Scripted missions where enemies literally kill themselves in front of you, corridors of 100s of endless enemies, mindnumbing combat & absurdly cliche story moments that feel like ChatGPT generated plot events. I feel bad for the developers who worked on this, it’s not your fault. I don’t know how this product was shipped.”
The developers at Build A Rocket Boy put out a statement this morning, saying it’s “heartbroken that not every player was able to experience the game as we intended” and that its “priority is optimizing performance and stability so that every player, across every device, can enjoy an equally high-quality experience.”
“We are fully committed to ensuring all our players have a great experience, and we will continue to provide frequent and transparent updates,” the studio said.
The performance issues, including stuttering, crashing, and poor performance in general, has gotten so bad that PlayStation hasbegun issuing refundsto players who wish to get one, which is usually not all that common or easy to do through PS5.
“I have had my Steam account for almost 12 years and have never felt compelled to leave a single review, until now,” one reviewsaid. “This was not ready to be released, especially for the current price. I tried to give it a chance, ended up refunding it.”
“It is the worst possible game I could have imagined it to be,” saidanother reviewfrom a player with 11 hours played inMindsEye. Seriously, it’s impressive how bad this one is. There are almost no enjoyable moments and every moment I have enjoyed, it was because I was laughing at this game. Avoid at all costs, even for free.
Buyer beware, I suppose. And I wish nothing but good luck and good vibes to the devs trying to fix the game to make it playable for those who do enjoy it so far.
