Resident Evil 7has been welcomed to the family…the family of games that have sold more than five million copies! Capcom’s 2017 reformed take onResident Evilisn’t ready to die yet.
Capcomannounced the new sales milestonealongside the reveal that it won the Best VR Audio award at this year’s Game Audio Network Guild Awards. The five million statistic isslightlymisleading though.Resident Evil 7is actually up to 5.1 million sales now.

At this point, we’re a little more than 14 months removed from the game’s launch.Resident Evil 7got off to a fast start, asit moved three million unitsin the first three weeks. Since then, it has picked up another 2.1 million. There aren’t any exact figures to support this, but December’s release of the Gold Edition (the version that contained all the add-ons) surely gave sales a late-year shot in the arm.
However, Capcom is still a long ways from its ultimate goal. Last May, the developer revealed thatit hopes to eventually sell 10 million copiesofResident Evil 7. Given Capcom’s strategies in the past, that will almost definitely involve several re-releases on various new platforms. That’s a lot of ground to make up from ports. But, it also feels likeResident Evil 7will probably hold up for years to come.
