E3: Warface promises AAA graphics at an unbeatable price

Trion and Crytek have shared a new trailer forWarfacein addition to a silly amount of screenshots to help usher in this week of never-ending news and asset dumps. We get it — the game looks good, particularly for something that’s free to play. (That’s the CryENGINE 3 for you.) The visual fidelity is certainly impressive and, for that matter, the tried-and-true gameplay doesn’t look half bad, either. I think I’ve grown out of these fast-paced shooters, because I tend to die frequently in them, but this might be worth a test run when it comes to North America....

GameStop Wii U preorders: 1.2m games for 500,000 systems

Software preorders double Wii launch GameStop’s Wii U preorders show that things are looking pretty good for Nintendo. According toGamasutra, GameStop has 1.2 million preorders for Wii U games, and that’s for the 500,000 consoles they were allocated. That’s 2.4 games for every console, double the preorder numbers the Wii saw. I think this strong software number says way more about the launch selection than anything else. I’m up forNew Super Mario Bros....

Happy Console Gamer laments lost game saves of the past

No, he didn’t pay me to post this. EA did. So, maybe I just want an excuse to promote one of my favorite YouTube gaming channels? In Happy Console Gamer’s latest video (of which he’s had a couple lately), he looks back at some painful memories of losing game saves — something I can relate to, growing up in the pre-Cloud, pre-HDD days of game consoles. He recalls a particularly painful memory of some untrustworthy kids deleting hisSymphony of the Nightsave....

Listen to the intro track for Silent Hill: Downpour

It’s safe to say that a major part of the atmosphere in the originalSilent Hillgames was the soundtrack by Akira Yamaoka. Any new music in the series will inevitably be compared to his work, which is almost unfair, since the man is such an exceptional musician. So when the intro track toSilent Hill: Downpourgetsposted on Soundcloud, what can fans do but compare it to what came before? A good intro track should set the tone for a game, and going by this one, we can probably expect the rest of the soundtrack to be mainly atmospheric, like most modern games....

Nintendo might stop making new Wii U by year’s end (Update)

Got to free up those factories to pump out NX [Update:Nintendo has denied the rumor. Speaking withIT Media(viaKotaku), a company spokesperson asserted “This isn’t an announcement from our company,” and that “from the next quarter and thereafter as well, production [of the Wii U] is scheduled to continue.”] Among all the rumors about Nintendo’s new home console, code named “NX” (I like “Wii Too,” personally), we might be forgetting about the poor ‘ol Wii U, Nintendo’s long-flagging gap hardware that seemed DOA and has since seen a lifespan close to the Dreamcast or original Xbox....
