Supposedly a ‘departure’ from the usual Outlast experience

Outlast 2is going to be a part of thePlayStation Plus offeringsfor November and, right on cue, Red Barrels has begun teasing its next horror game. Today, the developer shared a piece of artwork depicting two dirty arms, one of which has a dog tag with a string of numbers and the initials “MK”–presumably a nod to theMurkoff Corporation–alongside the tagline “Where freedom ends.”

It’s worth jumping back to last year, when Red Barrels said its next projectwould be a “departure”–in other words, not a direct sequel toOutlastorOutlast 2–yet still exist in the wider “Outlastuniverse.”

“If you’d told me a year ago that the project we’re currently working on was going to be our next thing, I would have said, ‘Nah, I don’t think so,'” Red Barrels co-founder Philippe Morin toldGamesIndustry.bizat the time. “It’s an internal struggle. On the one side you have to stay motivated as a developer, but at the same time we have to think about stuff as company owners.” We’ll see if those plans have changed.
