Fans with fond memories of gaming in the ’90s (i.e. me) rejoice, as soon you’ll be able to play classic Sega Genesis games on the go. If you always wondered what it would be like to playCool Spoton a train orToeJam & Earlwhile in a post office queue, well wonder no more.
As reported byThe Verge, a company calledHyperkin– a specialist in console hardware and accessories – is working on a portable Sega Genesis device. Dubbed the Mega 95, the system is said to be compatible with the original cartridges.
The report goes on to say that it’ll feature a five-inch screen, the ability to switch between 4:3 and 16:9 aspect ratios, up to 10 hours of battery life, and there’s even a USB-C dock so it can be hooked up to a TV.

Taking a look at the images, we can see the Mega 95 dock has two controller ports, which resemble the serial connections from the OG Genesis (which we called the Mega Drive, here in the UK).
The fact that it’s meant to support the official cartridges will be a huge selling point from a nostalgia point of view. This means it’s probably not going to be using emulation, so you’ll get to relive the classics as they were intended, such asStreets of Rage 2, which we all know is the greatest game ever made (I will fight you over this).
At the moment, there’s no release date for the device. Nor is there a price. However, it is another means by which we can play our games on the go. Especially for those of us who miss the glory days of Sega, iconic Saturday morning cartoons, and highly flammable shell suits. God, I hate being old.
