Funcom, the developer that has run theAge of ConanMMO since 2008, is in line to make a newConan the Barbariangame after a partnership with Conan Properties leaving Funcom as the main PC and console developer in theConanworld.
The MMO developer is also working on a spooky game calledThe Parkset in the same world as its interestingSecret WorldMMO. The company needs a boost after reports a few months ago thatit is flaggingafter poor performance by its LEGO MMO. A newConanis one of three games the company will announce in 2016.
“We are tremendously excited to be strengthening our relationship with Conan Properties,” Funcom CEO Rui Casais said. “Conan the Barbarian is undoubtedly one of the world’s greatest and most recognizable fantasy heroes, and as game developers, working with such a character and being able to draw from the fantastically detailed world of Hyboria is nothing short of a dream come true.”
Aside from Funcom’sConanMMO, the only other recentConangame was 2007’sConan, a typicalGod of Warknockoff. I’m not sure how much cultural cachet the Barbarian has these days. It feels a bit like remakingClash of the Titansin 2010. Or that 2011Conan the Barbarianmovie Icompletelyforgot about. But Funcom will announce its newConangame in January, 2016.
