Wired Productions, the publisher behindGori Cuddly Carnage, has announced that the game’s tremendous amount of blood and gore has had to be censored in the Japanese version of the game. In response to the blood saved, development team members are donating theirs to the NHS.
In anannouncement on Twitter, theGori Cuddly Carnage‘s publisher explained how the gallons of blood you see in all other versions of the title have been replaced in the Japanese version with “purple toy juice.” The publisher insists that this is an entirely new substance and isn’t just a recoloring or reskinning of the existing blood and gore players witnessed before the changes were made.

The Japanese version ofGori Cuddly Carnagecontains ‘purple toy juice,’ not blood
Some of Angry Demon Studio’s staff are using the lack of blood in one regional version ofGori Cuddly Carnageas an excuse to give blood to the NHS. This means the UK’s healthcare system will have a few more pints of blood to help save lives, which seems like an extremely wholesome response to your game’s censorship.
A statement on Gori: Cuddly Carnagepic.twitter.com/oMcZVgxGsM
Gori Cuddly Carnageis an incredibly gory game starring a cat on a hoverboard who slices and dices their way through mutated unicorns on apost-apocalyptic Earth. Having played the game, I can’t quite imagine it without the sheer amount of blood on-screen during combat, though I do understand why the Japanese rating board wants it to be toned down slightly.
Of course, gory games being censored isn’t anything new, Especially in Japan. Many games have different versions for the region because certain adult themes and visuals aren’t as accepted by the country’s rating boards. For example,Cybperunk 2077was censored in a few ways in Japanbecause it gets the player up close and personal in sex scenes, fierce shootouts, and bloody brawls.

It’s important to note that the developer hasn’t said thatGori Cuddly Carnagehas been changed in any other meaningful ways for the region. Yes, a few dead human bodies have been removed, but the core focus of this game is killing mutant unicorn toys and some of the biggest and scariest toy-themed bosses to ever grace a video game. The last thing on your mind is going to be the lack of human remains.
Finally, as more a footnote to this announcement about censorship and donating blood, Wired Productions added that a demo forGori Cuddly Carnageis slated to release in August this year. With the game’srelease date set for July 06, 2025, the demo will likely be out at the start of the month to give you plenty of time to indulge in the gore and crave more by the time release day rolls around.
