Dead Spacestory producer Chuck Beaver has pulled a U-turn on hiscomments from last week, claiming he was taken out of context when he said thatGears of Warcontained “literally the worst writing in games.” As impossible as it was to take his words inany othercontext, he has nonetheless reversed his statement.

“I just wanted to jump in and clarify some of my comments that were taken out of context aboutGears of War. First, let me say that I’m a huge fan,” he said. “It is an epic franchise that has trail-blazed more than a few industry-leading player experiences and mechanics. It is deservedly recognized as a top-tier title. Its success as a property is evidenced by its giant sales and rabid fan base. The industry is far better for Epic’s contributions, and we all owe a great deal of inspiration to their work.”

I am guessing the “rabid fan base” he mentioned had something to do with this, since the penalty for criticizing a videogame tends to be abuse. In any case, EA has pulled the original blog in which Beaver made his statements, so whatever opinion he tried to share has been abandoned.

Thus we all take one step further toward a community where we all think, act, and speak exactly the same.
