Don’t believe everything you read

Amid a flurry of speculation and rumors aboutApex Legends, Respawn has asked that you not believe everything you read on the internet. Except for this post. Believe everything in this post.

Earlier today, Respawn accidentally set the season one Battle Pass live, inadvertently giving players a sneak peek at what’s in store. Here’s a screenshot of it. The new upcoming Legend is named Octane, and he’s a dead ringer for one of the Psychos inBorderlands. Also, the Battle Pass will cost 950 Apex Coins, which is functionally $10.

Some players have taken all this a step further and datamined the hell out ofApex Legends. They’ve discovered 10 possible new Legends, which would more than double the current character count. It’s a tantalizing find.

Respawn broadly denies these leaks. In areddit posttitled “Some clarity around datamining and season 1,” Respawn notes that some of the content that’s rumored is very old and has already been cut. The developer has been playtesting to determine which characters are viable additions and which ones don’t suitApex Legends. “At best you should treat any posts about this as a rumor and the real info will come from us when we’re ready to show off what’s coming next,” Respawn says.

However, the Battle Pass/Octane discovery seems legitimate. We won’t know by the end of today, though. Respawn mentions that more information is on its way very soon but “it’s not coming out today.” Even if it’s not hours away, the start of season one feels imminent.
