Nintendo patents a new DS-like cartridge design

Imagine a DS-like cartridge that sticks out the back and has a larger top. It’s not that hard for anyone that makes or reviews games to imagine, as that’s pretty close to the ROMs that games devs use. The thing is that the patent never comes out and says that this is a DS compliant cartridge. It could be for for a totally new system. DS2 anyone? The application says that “the broken lines showing of an electronic game machine is for illustrative purposes only....

Podtoid: The Return

The boys are not back Jul 12, 2025, was a sad day for Destructoid as it marked the final broadcast of Podtoid. Steven Hansen said goodbye to Destructoid to fulfill his dream of instituting a communist regime in America, and the show went silent. For more than a year now, the Twitter profile@ispodtoidbackhas been keeping track of every day we didn’t have a new show. Well, I’m happy to say that after 432 days of posting “No, No, No” like an Amy Winehouse record suffering a Milli Vanilli skip, he can finally post a resounding “YES!...

Quantum Break finds Nirvana but not peace

He’s lying, he has a gun Although it won’t launch for another three weeks,Quantum Breakhas a launch trailer. That’s the weird dilution of terminology in the games industry today — words used because they sound good and not because they’re accurate. Really, this is more of a “pre-order, please!” trailer. Surely there will be more trailers between now and April 5. Semantics aside, this particular trailer is fun because of its hazy, legato rendition of Nirvana’s “Come As You Are....

Speaking to IGN, studio head Zampella notes that while the series is near and dear to their hearts, and “little bits of stuff come back” in games likeApex Legends, “there is nothing currently in development” relating to the series....

Strange: Valve games available on GameStop Impulse

GameStop’s digital distribution service, Impulse, now offers a few of Valve’s hits for download. This is the first time Valve’s games have been made available on a digital service outside of Steam. Gamasutrasays thatPortal 2, Left 4 Dead, Half-LifeandThe Orange Boxare now available via Impulse. You’ll still need to register the games through Valve’s Steam client, though. Hell, you might as well just buy them on Steam. Think of the games being on Impulse as a wierd sort of link to Steam, bringing GameStop’s customers and their purchases to Valve’s service....

Telltale’s Walking Dead might be headed to Wii U, three years later

Boxed version of Seasons 1 and 2 After years of being absent on Wii U, Telltale might be bringing its acclaimedWalking Deadadventure series to the platform. GAME has listed a new boxed release up for pre-order, priced at £29.99 with a launch date of October 30 — spooky! Since the series is out on literally everything else, it makes perfect sense. Also, the sixth season of the TV show is premiering on October 11 (and spinoffFear the Walking Deadwill be running concurrently, starting in August), so it seems like the right time to advertise for the impending Wii U edition....

The Daily Hotness: Adam Orth, we hardly knew thee

Check out everything that Destructoid did today Well…damn. From Twitter beef, to resignation, the story of “#dealwithit” certainly escalated quickly. What’s that saying? Loose lips sink ships. It’s crazy to think how one minute you can be eating lunch, insulting your customer base the next, then resigning from your post in another. I think even Mr. Orth could agree, it gets pretty surreal how quickly some things can get out of hand....

Epic has noticed too, which has to be why they’re doing a 10XP event. Now that’s just trying to hard. Interestingly enough though,Gears of War: Judgmentlooks pretty cool. Not saying that I’m saying that I’m not saying anything, but you should definitely check Dtoid on March 4th....

The Kindle can’t do Contra; not yet, at least

Yesterday, Amazonannounced that it is opening the Kindle platform to developerswith the release of the KDK. Games were mentioned as a type of media set to hit the e-book reader — but what should we expect? I spoke with Sonic Boom Games COO Josh Grant this afternoon about his studio’s involvement with the platform, asking with skepticism about what kind of games that might hit the Kindle in the future....
